 Christmas, It is a Christian festival celebrating the births of Jesus. In early 20th century, it became a secular family holiday. Christmas is celebrated by Christians on December 25. In the celebration of this festival people exchange the gifts and gives the good wishes. The celebration of Christmas stared in Rome about 336, but it did not become a major Christian festival until the 9th century. Most people celebrate the Christmas on 25 December that day Roman Catholic Church chose to mark Jesus birthday. But on one actually knows the exact date Jesus was born!


On every Christmas, people have been sending Christmas greeting cards to each others for hundreds of years. The first recorded use of "Merry Christmas" was in Christmas letter sent in 1534. The custom of sending cards was started in UK in 1843 by "Sir Henry Cole". He was a civil servant. Sir Henry had the idea of Christmas card with his friend "John Horsley". They designed the first card and sold them for 1 shilling each.


Celebration of Christmas in German 

Christmas is celebrated all over the world, and every country has their unique way of celebrating the Christmas. But in Germany, Christmas is one of the most important family and religious holiday. They have many treats with different fruits, Nutrients and other spicy and sweet food. They celebrate the Christmas on 25th and 26th of December. But 24th December is also very important for Germans, this day is mostly for kids because of this, it is called Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve's evening father Jesus comes with gifts and gives to kids, and kids opens these gifts next morning.

Advent is the official run-up to Christmas in Germany, it starts four Sundays before Christmas. We can say from the day of Advent kids starts the count down of Christmas. They lits the candles on every Sunday from 1st December to mark the approaching holiday.  

In German Christmas tradition Christmas cookies are much loved. In those days, Germans cooks different type of foods, not a single person of a family but whole family works together and prepare the food for Christmas. There are different type of cookies, those are prepared by Germans family. Few names are below:

        Marzipan Almond Cookies
        German Meringue Cookies
        German Jam Cookies
        German Butter Cookies

There are many drinks during Christmas time in German, with those drinks they enjoy the Christmas a lot. They mostly used non-alcoholic drinks on Christmas. One of the most popular drink in German market on Christmas is Gluhwein or Kinderpunsch, this is non alcoholic drink. Eierpunsch and Feuerzangenbowle are also most favorite drinks on Christmas market.
